Easter Get-Away 3rd-5th April 2015

Chyulu Hills and Amboseli National Parks Friday 3rd  – Sun 5th April 2015

Day 1: Nairobi- Chyulu Hills

Leave Nairobi at 6:00am and start off by exploring Chyulu Hills - The Green Hills of Africa, a magical land of black frozen lava studded with blazing red-hot poker trees. 80 Kms long, Chyulu Hills coils like a sleeping dragon on the lion-gold plains of this treasure. The Hills are one of the world’s newest mountain ranges, formed 500 years ago. The park was established to protect its unique habitat, and the catchment area for Mzima Springs in Tsavo West which supply water to Coast residents-the water through the porous rocks and Umani Springs in Kibwezi forest. Chyulu Hills has the deepest known lava tube cave in the world. Some of its volcanic eruptions occurred as recently as 240 years ago, leaving behind the extensive Shetani lava flow and Chaimu Hill (crater), both covered in black solid magma that is still barren and un-weathered.

Later drive to Amboseli National Park, sundowner, for dinner and over night

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Amboseli lies immediately North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro, on the border with Tanzania. It was established as a reserve in 1968 and gazetted as a National Park in 1974.There are over 53 species of herbivores and carnivores that can be viewed with ease, the most conspicuous being herds of over one thousand elephants who range the plains and wallow in the swamps. A number of other unique animals also populate the area including lion, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, rhino, wildebeest, gerenuks, impalas

After a day full of activities, you can relax and enjoy a cold swim in the swimming pool beautifully designed and set against the backdrop of the mountain.
